Elon Musk aborts SpaceX launch for Falcon 9 Rocket

SpaceX Falcon 9

It’s a great time to be alive if you’re a fan of space exploration. And it’s mostly because of Elon Musk. You may have heard of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket before, but if you haven’t YOU SHOULD. It was supposed to be launched today, but it was delayed, and I wanted to explain why it’s awesome.

Here’s a video of what Falcon looks like. It’s like no other rocket you’ve seen before. It LANDS vertically, the same way it takes off — it doesn’t just splash into the ocean after running out of fuel. It lands.

And as if that wasn’t insanely cool enough, it’s going to land on a SHIP. Will that ship have a captain? NO. IT WILL BE A DRONE SHIP.

According to AP:

“The Dragon capsule aboard the rocket contains more than 5,000 pounds of supplies and experiments ordered up by NASA. That’s the primary objective for SpaceX. But the California-based company plans to attempt an even more extraordinary feat once the Dragon is on its way: flying the booster rocket to a platform in the Atlantic. No one has ever pulled off such a touchdown.”

According to SpaceX:

“The odds of success are not great—perhaps 50% at best. However this test represents the first in a series of similar tests that will ultimately deliver a fully reusable Falcon 9 first stage.”

But then it turned out that the launch was delayed.

I’ll report back with more info after the launch happens.
