***ATTENTION: I’ve closed down Open Mic List. It was fun. I’m working on other fun new digital projects now, like a Kickstarter marketing company. Here are the final stats: 2,019 North American comedians installed Open Mic List on their phones and used it at least once per week. In total, my users found comedy open mics 16,797 times. On average, they used the app for 1-3 minutes per session. The Apple iOS version received 14 ratings averaging 5 stars (out of 5). The Android / Google Play version received 13 ratings averaging 4.5 stars (out of 5). Bear in mind, I’ve spent ZERO DOLLARS on marketing/promotions, so these are all social “word-of-mouth” downloads, meaning folks really thought the app was useful, which warms my heart. My 2012 has been one hell of an interesting year, and I can’t wait to see what 2013 brings. Three cheers to geeking out…

I personally needed this app. I needed help finding open mics easily, because in Los Angeles, gas is expensive, and everything is far from everything else. When I didn’t find exactly what I wanted in the App Store or Android Market — a free app that simply told me where the nearest comedy open mic existed) — I realized I’d have to build it myself.

I needed to know where the easiest stage time could be found, and there wasn’t a simple way to do that ‘on the go’. There were some web directories, and a few forums — but nothing really making use of the amazing mobile technology available in 2012.

So, comedians, here’s why OPEN MIC LIST is really useful:

• MAYBE: You’re not getting enough stage time, and you don’t know how to find more.

• MAYBE: You’re in a random city and want to get on stage, but have no idea what the local comedy comedy scene is like.

• MAYBE: You’re in your own city, but you’re tired of traveling across town to perform when there might be an open mic nearby.
